Atul grew up in an army family, studied commerce and management, and joined banking in 2005. Over twenty years he moved from the cash counter to leading branches, then to managing business banking and current-account relationships across Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Gujarat with some of India’s best-known banks. Along the way he earned CAIIB, became a Certified Bank Trainer, and collected awards for branch performance and team engagement. Today he is turning that experience into education: teaching, training and preparing young graduates for careers in banking and finance.
Early years
Atul grew up in an army family and studied at Army Schools in Punjab and Lucknow. Discipline, punctuality and service came early. His family roots are in Champawat, Uttarakhand, and he speaks English, Hindi and Kumauni.
1999 to 2005
B.Com (1999) and M.Com (2001) from Lucknow University, then an MBA in Marketing & Finance (2003) from Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University with First Division Honours, and an M.Phil in Management (2005) from Madurai Kamaraj University. Learning never stopped: CAIIB, Moody’s CICC, Trade Finance, NISM and insurance certifications followed.
2005 to 2008
Atul began at ICICI Bank in January 2005 as a Branch Cash Officer in retail banking. At HDFC Bank he became Deputy Manager and Branch Operations Manager, running cash and voucher controls, leading the operations team and delivering audits with zero compliance issues and 100% KYC accuracy. He earned two Certificates of Appreciation, from his Zonal Head and Branch Head.
2008 to 2015
At IndusInd Bank (2008 to 2013) Atul ran a branch with both operations and sales teams, personally handled the top 50 customers, and drove revenue through CASA, insurance, mutual funds, housing loans and working capital, while keeping compliance and audit strong. At Axis Bank (2013 to 2015) in Uttarakhand he was named Best Branch Manager twice by the MD & CEO, Best in CASA by Circle Heads, and Best in Employee Engagement.
2015 to 2025
At Kotak Mahindra Bank (2015 to 2018) Atul managed the business banking vertical across Vapi, Silvassa and Daman, growing working capital, CASA and cross-sell revenue. At DBS Bank India (2018 to 2025) as Market Manager for Gujarat, he handled current accounts for start-ups, fintechs and MNCs, cash management, working capital, regulatory affairs and custody solutions for PE/VC funds.
Today
After more than twenty years, Atul chose a second innings in education. As a Certified Bank Trainer (NIBM Pune & IIBF), he already loved explaining banking clearly. He now teaches online from a dedicated setup and is preparing for UGC-NET in Commerce to grow in academics. He is also building BFSI NXTGEN Professionals India, a video-based programme that helps graduates prepare for private-sector banking jobs: basic banking, key certification exams (KYC & AML, NISM mutual fund and depository, insurance) and interview readiness.
Always
Atul serves as Secretary of the Bairag Singh Karki Smriti Gau Seva Samiti in Champawat, a family initiative supporting cow welfare and rural livelihoods in Uttarakhand.
